Shipwrecked Sideboard - commission piece not available

$0.00

When we found this lovely shaped piece she was in a real state. Beautiful lines but the whole surface area has seen much better days.

We started by modifying the top and removing the dated back plate and mirror and filled the holes. The top was sanded back to wood and finished in dark wax only which nourished the wood and added a beautiful sheen and colour while still able to see the wood grain.

I have done a step by step video series on our Facebook page showing each layer as it is completed on this piece, so jump over to there if you want a more detailed explanation

Our first step was creating loads and loads of texture using Nymph chalk paint, a soft white all over the body of the sideboard. Let it dry overnight

Second layer was French Navy chalk paint all over the white layer, creating more texture bumps and raised edges. Let it dry overnight

Third layer was the bright turquoise Christabelle chalk paint, a smoother layer all over the other two ensuring everything is covered up. Let it dry overnight

Once totally dry we needed two people to take her outside, where we used our electric sander all over the body to create a beautiful smooth finish and expose different layers of paint through the top Christabelle layer. This is where the shipwrecked look comes in and creates all the interest and the look as if it has had paint coming off over years of use. PS you end up looking like a smurf as this part creates a lot of dust and is definitely recommended for outside only. We wore safely googles and a dust mask when doing this.

The final layer was dark wax all over the body, darker and deeper in some areas and lighter in others for depth and age. We kept the hardware simple replacing with vintage pieces we had already in our stash. This was as super fun piece to create and could look very different depending on what combinations of paint and wax colours you use together
